Case Study: Bundaberg Christian College

Bundaberg Christian College is a Kindergarten to Year 12 Private School that features a mix of buildings, old and new.

The School’s facilities were well-maintained, however, the introduction of a new colour scheme had created inconsistency in the paintwork.

The challenge

The College’s facility management team had outlined a project scope, though the implementation plan was in the hands of the contractor. They were seeking a solution that provided demonstrable value for money, including tailoring to their budget. The paintwork needed some tender-love-and-care in certain buildings, where surfaces had degraded after being left untouched for so long.

The design of the College provided a couple of challenges. Firstly, there was access restrictions due to the proximity of buildings. Additionally, there is an onsite water treatment plant, which collects water from roofs and drainage and filters it into tanks for use around the school. This meant that any run-offs from contractors would cause major issues.

Solution

We tailored a ten-year painting maintenance plan to keep Bundaberg Christian College’s facilities looking pristine, with repaints spread out across several years to accommodate budgetary constraints. Our Bundaberg team used Haymes Paint products applying Solashield to the school’s exterior surfaces, and Expressions Interior within the buildings.

Elevated Work Platforms were erected to negate the tight access in and around buildings. When performing building washdowns, our team would carefully consider where run-offs went and ensure the use of biodegradable detergents. All run-offs were then isolated and pumped out and disposed of at a safe location, protecting the tank-quality water for sustained use throughout the school.

Results

Year one of repaints has been completed with several more buildings due to be repainted during the upcoming summer holidays. Aligning ourselves with Bundaberg Christian College’s environmental ethos wasn’t the only focus for this painting partnership. Understanding the importance of agriculture within the College’s community, our Bundaberg team has sponsored their Hoof’n’Hook Program.
