In keeping with Higgins' reputation of high levels of professionalism and attention to detail, we sought to understand the needs of the school, not only when it comes to painting, but also sustainability and the environment.

The challenge

Our Melbourne team had previously completed various flooring works in parts of the school's internal areas. The school indicated that a large-scale painting project was imminent, with the aim to revitalise and protect both internal and external facades across the grounds over time.

An underlying facet of Camberwell Grammar School's ethos lies in sustainability and therefore conducting sustainable operations - a priority that is echoed to all contractors. At Higgins, we closely tie ourselves to these values.

When it came to the painting works, the school required a contractor that would manage everything from the works schedule to paint materials and specialised access equipment. For our operatives, there was a large emphasis placed on having our works schedule coexist with the school's schedule to prevent disruptions to students and staff.

Solution

Our commitment to sustainability coupled with our 74 years of painting experience deemed us the most suited to take on the extensive repaint works across the school. In conjunction with paint partner Dulux, we have committed to reduce material waste by diverting plastic goods from landfill as part of the Project Earth sustainability initiative. The school had peace of mind knowing that the paint pails accumulated throughout the project would be recycled into new sundry paint materials.

Our maintenance offering maximises flexibility and empowers our customers to better dictate the outcome of their painting project. We conducted frequent assessments to gauge which sections of the school required more attention. This was used to inform the works schedule that prioritised weathered areas ahead of those in good condition. The project commenced during the school holiday period which granted our operatives little to no obstructions while accessing various parts of the buildings.

Over the course of three weeks, our experts rejuvenated external surfaces of the sports facility, Junior School and administration building, taking advantage of the open walkways and footpaths to position boom lifts and scissor lifts in order to reach higher surfaces. Results
