The Sands Torquay is home to an immaculate resort and golf course while neighbouring the iconic Torquay beach.

Our Geelong team was engaged to provide the painting works of the refurbishment being carried out by Destination Leisure Holdings – the resort’s new ownership group.

The challenge

The resort’s new owners wanted to refurbish the resort ahead of the peak summer period. Within this refurbishment, our local painting experts were required to perform an internal and external repaint of 112 rooms. The key challenge within the project was the delivery of all painting works prior to the commencement of the resort’s busy period. The project’s start date coincided with cumbersome COVID-19 restrictions, which provided an additional challenge for our operations team. Along with the repainting of the facilities, the resort also enquired about our ability to refurbish their furniture to help bring it back to life with a colour palette that matched their internal and external substrates.

Solution

With the everchanging COVID-19 restrictions, our delivery team had to scale our workforce to ensure all works would be completed ahead of the deadline. Our operations team conducted all works in conjunction with our COVID-Safe plan. We utilised EWPs and scaffolding throughout the project to safely access all substrates. An external architect determined the colour palette we applied, which was a change from their previous palette with the new colours selected to provide harmony with the beautiful coastal surroundings. The facility features two accommodation blocks and the golf course and clubhouse, which our operations team tackled in sections. Our painting experts created a segregated workspace to refurbish all furniture.

Results

We completed the painting arm of the refurbishment on time and without any major issues. The result was fantastic, with the resort being transformed into a stunning facility akin to its surroundings. The client was particularly pleased with our ability to accommodate the furniture refurbishment, which has helped uplift the rooms within the resort.
