Initially intended for use as a Gentleman's Club, Clifford House was constructed in 1865 and is now heritage-listed.

In the 1970s, the property converted to a restaurant and is still a popular eatery in the area today. Our Toowoomba team provided a repaint of the facility to rejuvenate life into its exterior.

The challenge

Clifford House had not received a major repaint for over 15 years. There was damage to the arch windows, posts, and other substrates and an external contractor was utilised to re-gutter the facility before we applied any paint. Despite boasting a high-end dining experience and being a popular wedding venue, the facility looked bland compared to its former self. It was clear Clifford House required a painting overhaul.

The customer emphasised the need to remain functional throughout the entire painting project. In addition to this, the operational component of this project was not straightforward. Access to the roof and surfaces above ground level was challenging and required a well-thought out access plan.

Solution

Our operations team proposed a full external repaint with a dramatic colour change. The colour scheme selected aligned with the original heritage colours. The specification utilised was a mix of Dulux Aquanamel, Dulux Metalshield, and Dulux Weathershield. Though the mix of tenants occupying the facility provided a challenge, consistent communication and on-site meetings ensured stakeholders were across the project at all times. Our operations plan included the use of fixed scaffolding, Elevated Work Platforms (EWP’s), and boom lifts.

Results

After two months and three painters on-site at any one time, the repaint of this facility was complete. As evidenced in the images below, the transformation has refreshed this iconic hospitality space entirely. The facility is once again the perfect setting for a wedding or any special occasion.
