The heritage building at St Joseph’s Flexible Learning Centre had not received a repaint since the 1980’s.

Our Melbourne Team was engaged to rejuvenate this building, and create an environment that will help stimulate learning.

The challenge

The school had many surfaces that required significant preparation, including wall filling, prior to the commencement of any repaint. In addition to these minor repairs, at any given time there was up to five other trades operating on-site concurrent with our works. With certain areas requiring the attention of multiple trades, Higgins was required to carefully curate an operations plan that would mitigate disruption, in the case that other trades were unable to complete their projects within the required deadline.

The colour scheme of this building had been cited as outdated and required a refresh. All works were required to be completed in a strict time frame to ensure the school presented well before students returned in term one.

Solution

Higgins provided a tailored solution that featured an extensive internal repaint. Given that the focus of this project was to help the aging buildings back to life , we liaised with colour consultants to get an expert opinion on a suitable painting specification. After consulting with Dulux, we agreed on a three-colour paint scheme that featured two whites and a green.

The operations team responsible for completing this rejuvenation included 16 painters, led by our full-time Foreman and Project Manager. With an emphasis on OH&S compliant practices, we were able to work cohesively around the other contractors and provide a high-quality finish.

Results

The end product at this school was one of our best finishes yet. We enjoyed applying our craft while on-site and were commended for our efforts at the project's completion.
