The Accent on McLeod strata complex had not been repainted since its construction in 2006.

McLeod Street is located within the heart of the Cairns Central Business District and is home to the Accent on McLeod strata complex. Our Cairns Team was engaged by the body corporate to tackle this difficult repaint, that aimed to refresh the external facades with a new colour that would help modernise the building. There was also a number of building repairs carried out including joint repairs and remediation to concrete cancer. 

The challenge

As with any strata complex, there is always the challenge of delivering a quality efficient project while ensuring residents are able to maintain the quiet enjoyment of their home. In addition to this, another key challenge was the variety of access methodology necessary to reach the elevated areas of this building in an OH&S compliant manner. As can be seen, this strata complex in nestled in-between neighbouring properties, with the front facade located on one of the busiest streets in Cairns. 

Solution

Higgins was engaged in large part due to our engagement and knowledge throughout the quoting and sales process. Knowledge of how to access all the areas of the building safely, instilled confidence in the client and our level of communication throughout highlighted our drive to deliver a successful project.

Once underway, our Operations Team successfully navigated this building's challenges utilising a combination of fixed and mobile scaffolding, Elevated Work Platforms (EWP) and our trade-qualified abseil-team of painters.

We liaised with neighbouring businesses to gain additional access to the building, reducing our reliance on the less
cost-effective scaffolding and abseil-team techniques.

A colour change was required from the existing scheme and the coatings system consisted of a range of Dulux products, including a Weathershield, Wash and Wear, Aquanamel, Metalshield and Weathermax. 

Through consistent communication and regular site-meetings, Higgins was able to ensure all parties were kept as up-to-date as possible and minimised any issues that arose.

Results

The high-quality finish was achieved after eight weeks on-site with the results pleasing the body corporate committee and the residents alike. See the photos below to understand the transformation this building has undertaken.
